Leigh-Ann gets a mention in Parliament

Breastfeeding support service assistant Leigh-Ann Johnstone has been congratulated in a motion in the Scottish Parliament.

Leigh-Ann is shortlisted for Maternity Support Worker of the Year in the Royal College of Midwives’ Annual Midwifery Awards.

She works in Wishaw General Hospital’s busy neonatal unit, giving advice about breastfeeding – the very best medicine for sick and vulnerable babies.

Coatbridge and Chryston MSP Elaine Smith, a well-known supporter of breastfeeding, has submitted a parliamentary motion of congratulations.

It says:

That the Parliament congratulates Leigh-Ann Johnstone on being shortlisted in the Maternity Support Worker of the Year category at the Royal College of Midwives’ Annual Midwifery Awards; notes that she is a breastfeeding support service assistant at Wishaw General Hospital’s neonatal unit and encourages mothers at the unit to breastfeed; understands that the unit cares for premature and unwell babies and that, since Leigh-Ann joined the team a year ago, there has been a significant rise in the amount of babies receiving their mothers’ milk; considers breastfeeding to be the best medicine for vulnerable infants, and wishes Leigh-Ann the very best of luck at the awards, which will be presented in London in March 2016.
