Staff ensure Jean gets home for 100th birthday

When 99-year-old Jean Jamieson came to Hairmyres Hospital after a fall, staff were sure they’d have her home in time for her 100th birthday some weeks later.
But Jean developed sepsis, a potentially life-threatening condition, triggered by an infection or injury.
The fantastic care from staff on ward 14 saw Jean fight back to health. A care package was in place to support her – but she deteriorated again due to sepsis.
After a month-long stay at Hairmyres, Jean made a remarkable recovery – in time to be home to chalk up her century.
Jean said: “I was so ill that I didn’t think I would make it. If it wasn’t for all the staff I wouldn’t be here today. I can’t praise them enough.”
Ward 14 senior charge nurse Margaret Gibney said: “Jean was a pleasure to care for. The staff were extremely happy to see her going home in time to celebrate her landmark birthday.”
