Jonathan and his boy in triathlon test
On 20 August Jonathan Edgar, consultant anaesthetist at Hairmyres Hospital, along with his 17-year-old son Nathan, will take part in a triathalon in Malawi to raise funds for malaria prevention.
Organised by the Edinburgh Medical Missionary Society, the event will take over five days to complete and will involve a 10k kayak, 200k cycle and mount climb of 2000m.
The event will raise money to fund a malaria spraying programme in the villagers’ homes in Malawi, which can reduce cases of childhood malaria by 75 per cent.
Due to the current food crisis in Malawi, the Scottish Government has pledged to match any donations raised. To date, the fund has reached a remarkable £6000.
