Training centre achieves a Scottish first

The Medical Education Training Centre (METC) at Kirklands HQ was delighted to be the first in Scotland to be awarded the opportunity to host a prestigious course.
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in London run the Basic Practical Skills in Obstetrics & Gynaecology course, designed for specialty trainees in years one, two and three.
The West of Scotland Deanery were supported by the Scottish RCOG to run the course at METC over two days.
Obstetrics and gynaecology consultant Dr Mohamed Allam, from Wishaw General, and Dr Mohamed Mehasseb, from Glasgow Royal Infirmary, organised the course – a fantastic opportunity for west of Scotland trainees to receive expert advice from senior clinicians and hands-on training in a simulation environment.
Mohamed said: “This was the first franchised course in basic practical skills in Scotland.
“The financial benefit for Scottish, especially west of Scotland, trainees and Scottish deaneries is huge as the course is non-profit and they also save on transport and accommodation.
“The whole faculty was from the west of Scotland. Consultants in various specialties from different hospitals very kindly volunteered their time and effort for this course to be run in Scotland.”
