A fond farewell to Teresa

Colleagues gathered to pay a fond farewell to Teresa Rennie, who retired after 39 years’ service.
The Macmillan lead haematology-oncology nurse joined NHS Lanarkshire in 1977 when she trained as a nurse at Stonehouse Hospital. On completing her training, Teresa moved to Monklands Hospital’s coronary care unit and later attended night school to become a registered nurse.
It was at this time Teresa became interested in haematology and became instrumental in developing the nurse-led chemotherapy service across Lanarkshire.
Teresa is well-known across the country for her skills and expertise and received several awards for her dedication to cancer services, the most recent being an MBE on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Teresa has touched the lives of many patients, families and carers and has extended her support out-with her working day by organising special events for patients.
Teresa lives in Bellshill with her husband Alan. They both enjoy travelling to different countries and spend many Christmases in their favourite resort of Madeira.
Margaret Kelly, cancer service manager, said: “Teresa is a unique individual who has developed the chemotherapy services within NHS Lanarkshire and touched so many patients and their families over the years. She will be missed greatly by her patients and staff alike. We wish her a long, happy and healthy retirement”.
