Haven volunteer recruitment appeal

Have you ever considered volunteering? Would you like to make a difference to families living in your local community? Do you have good people skills? Do you have a few spare hours a week? Then why not apply to be a Haven volunteer?

The Haven in Blantyre has several vacancies to be filled with morning and afternoon shifts available. There is no previous experience required as training and ongoing support will be provided.

You could be the first person an individual speaks to at reception after they have plucked up the courage to visit the centre or you could be the caring listening ear in the lounge making an anxious client feel safe and at ease. You will be making a real difference to those facing a range of illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease.

June Sutherland, service manager, said: “We need the support of the local community to continue to deliver all of the Haven services that people require.

“Volunteers are a vital part of The Haven’s model of care and we can’t deliver our high standard of services without them. If you have a few spare hours per week and would like to help and make a difference to families living in our please contact The Haven.

“You could put old skills to good use or learn something new. Our Haven centres are warm, welcoming and positive places where our clients can access emotional support to manage the impact illness, bereavement or caring responsibilities has on their lives. There will be a wide variety of roles that volunteers can take on, for example reception/lounge volunteers, meaning that no matter your skill-set you can bring a great deal to the charity and the people we support.”

A Haven client said: “I really like the sense of relaxation at The Haven. I find the staff and volunteers easy to talk to and attentive.”
