Our first 10 scrub up well

University Hospital Wishaw has 10 new theatre associate practitioners.
The staff, who were previously clinical support workers, completed an innovative training programme in partnership with Borders College to enable them to progress.
Frances Dodd, acute divisional nurse director, said: “Between them, cohort one has over 80 years of theatre experience already.
“Offering existing experienced theatre clinical support workers a chance to progress in their role provides an opportunity for our own staff to grow and develop. These new posts are the first cohort through our theatre academy and they will boost the number of scrub staff that we have.”
Yvonne Anderson, who is one of the new band four assistant practitioners, said: “I have worked for the health service since I was 17, so it is quite a number of years.
“I joined nine other band fours on this journey, there has been laughter and tears but we all got each other through it. We are all proud of ourselves.”
