NHS Lanarkshire staff and health services are preparing to move to the new Houldsworth Centre in Wishaw.

NHS Lanarkshire staff and health services are preparing to move to the new Houldsworth Centre in Wishaw.
The £23million joint health and council community facility has been handed over and health services will be operational from Monday 17 August.
Colin Sloey, NHS Lanarkshire executive director for strategic planning and performance, said: “A lot of hard work by all our staff and partners has gone into making this a reality and we would like to thank everyone who has played their part in helping to pull it together. Particular thanks are extended to our main contractor Graham Construction for achieving this significant milestone.
“Our aim now is to get the health services up and running as our priority is always to ensure we provide the highest standards of care to our patients.”
The new 7800 square metre facility will host a range of health services including GP practices, dental services, podiatry, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, all community treatment room activity, mental health, phlebotomy, public health nurses and long term condition nurses.
Colin added: “The Houldsworth Centre will be a tremendous addition to the town centre allowing people to access a wide range of health and council services in one convenient location.
“This represents a significant investment by NHS Lanarkshire in local health care and shows our commitment to integrated working for the wellbeing of the community.”
Wishaw library, First Stop Shop and housing office will open in new premises on 31 August.
“The new Houldsworth Centre brings together a range of essential local services in one state-of-the-art community facility in the heart of Wishaw town centre,” said Councillor William Hogg, Convener of the Corporate Services Committee.
“It’s close to public transport links and town centre parking, making it easier for residents to access the services they need.”
When the new centre opens, the former health centre building will be demolished to make space for a two-storey car park with 190 spaces. This is expected to open in March 2016. Until then, car parking is available around the town centre.
Details of local parking is available on council’s web site at www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/houldsworth.
Have been in a few times and feel this money was spent to improve services. However , i think that the barrier that is around the walk ways looking down onto the ground floor needs to be higher. I know that on the first day of it being open somebody threatened to jump off it! When I attended for my induction , 2 of the district nurses in my group both said at the same time……wonder who will be the first to jump!!! This is not something to joke about, I have witnessed this form of suicide and i still have the scares!! Greater consideration needs to be put into making it safer for people who suffer mental health issues, personallity disorders and addiction issues, these are the people who will attempt suicide.
