Friends and colleagues bid a fond farewell to Mary Samson after 22 years service

Friends and colleagues bid a fond farewell to Mary Samson, Unison representative and Branch secretary, who retired from the NHS in June after 22 years service.
After leaving school in 1968 Mary became a trade union representative and worked in the private sector for 25 years.
In 1993 Mary joined NHS Lanarkshire where she was based at Udston Hospital. She took up partnership working in 2000 and thereafter joined the human resources department at Law House where she remained until her retirement.
Mary lives in Motherwell and has two daughters Lorraine (42) and Victoria (39) and two step-sons David (42) and Derek (38).
In her spare time Mary enjoys reading, photography, holidaying in her caravan and has just become the owner of a new puppy.
Ruth Hibbert, divisional HR director, said: “Mary’s commitment to partnership working and the interests of her members was considerable. She co-chaired a number of important partnership groups including the Joint Policy Forum and the former South Lanarkshire CHP Divisional Partnership Forum and her contribution was invaluable. Her experience and knowledge of employee relations matters will be greatly missed.”
