Sandy runs up a great total for Monklands

A former patient was so impressed with his treatment at Monklands Hospital that he raised over £400 for ward 14 in a charity run.

Sandy Ogilvie, from the Isle of Bute, was visiting family in Lanarkshire in September 2013 when he had a series of seizures.

Sandy, who has epilepsy, was taken to Monklands and looked after on ward 14.

He said: “Thanks to the care of the staff, I was able to recuperate and was discharged 10 days later.”

Sandy’s recovery was so good that he managed to take part in the Great Scottish Run’s 10k event around two weeks later, raising funds for Epilepsy Scotland.

He decided to do the 10k again this year to raise funds for Monklands, and was supported with donations from family, friends and colleagues.

Dad-of-two Sandy, 36, added: “Raising money for Monklands is my way of returning the support they showed me.”

He was delighted to be reunited with nursing assistant Tam Milligan, who’d helped to look after him, when he returned to the ward to present his cheque to senior charge nurse Lisa McCarroll and deputy charge nurse Lorna Currie.

Lisa said: “We’d like to thank Sandy for his generous donation. It’s great to have the care we provide acknowledged in this way.”
