A busy week in the press for NHS Lanarkshire

Last week’s news saw NHS Lanarkshire in the national headlines following the publication of the Ombudsman’s report into a year-long delay in informing a patient of his prognosis.

This story featured in the Evening Times, The Herald and on Evening Times Online and BBC News Online.

Anyone reading the story couldn’t fail to be shocked by the delay and it was clear that we fell below the standards of care any patient should expect from NHS Lanarkshire.

It is important that we learn lessons by cases such as those highlighted by the ombudsman so that we continue to improve our services and patient care.

So it was encouraging to see that in a week dominated by the ombudsman report there was still a lot of good news in the papers featuring some great examples of the high quality care we do provide to patients.

The Hamilton Advertiser covered a story which highlighted that carers and relatives are seeing real differences in their loved ones thanks to ‘The Club’ at Wishaw General. ‘The Club’ is an area within the day hospital, where patients with dementia can go and take part in social activities.

The papers also featured a dental project which won a national award. The project aims to improve the oral health of children with physical disabilities and/or sensory or learning impairments.

One of the main positive stories last week is that NHS Lanarkshire is one of the best performing health boards for stroke services. It is great to see that NHS Lanarkshire is leading the way in this area.
