A GrA&Et fundraising effort from emergency dept staff

Three emergency department staff at Wishaw General collected nearly £900 for motor neurone disease with a fundraising stall at the hospital.

Emergency medicine consultant Alison Pollock was inspired to fundraise for MND Scotland after her uncle Ian died from the condition in 1999, only eight months after being diagnosed.

Supporting Alison in her fundraising efforts, which netted £866.89, were staff nurse Caroline Casey, specialty doctor Liz Clinton and Alison’s mum.

This money was raised through a tombola, for 50p per ticket, and by selling a small amount of Christmas cards and second-hand books.

Alison said: “I began fundraising through sponsored 10k runs – I am not a runner! Since starting at Wishaw General emergency department in late 2010, I’ve raised £5517.76 just by doing book/toy/bric-a-brac sales and more recently the tombola.

“I’ve raised thousands more by doing other sponsored events including a trek on the Inca trail in Peru to Machu Picchu in 2012 and a climb up Ben Nevis in 2015.

“Liz, Caroline and my other colleagues have been continually supportive of my fundraising and my office mate Drew Graham puts up with a lot as I store a lot of MND stuff there.”
