Airdrie public meetings put focus on future Monklands

NHS Lanarkshire is holding two meetings in Airdrie on 13 September as part of the public consultation on the replacement or refurbishment of University Hospital Monklands.

Both meetings are at Airdrie Town Hall, the first from 2pm to 4pm and the second from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Graeme Reid, Monklands Replacement/Refurbishment Project director, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to build a state-of-the-art hospital for Lanarkshire and we want to make sure as many people as possible see our presentation and give their comments.

“This is your chance to help shape the future of healthcare in Lanarkshire so I would encourage people to take part in the consultation by coming to the meetings or completing the questionnaire that’s in the consultation document or online at monklands.scot.nhs.uk.”

At each meeting the audience will be seated at tables to watch a presentation outlining the clinical case for change, the challenges of building on the existing site compared to a new site and why an alternative location for the hospital at Gartcosh has emerged from option appraisal as the highest scoring option.

Each table will then have a group discussion on the proposal and what else the NHS Lanarkshire Board should consider before making its decision on a preferred option at its meeting in November. This will be co-ordinated by a facilitator, who will note people’s feedback.

The facilitators will then share the feedback with the audience and raise questions from each table that will be answered by representatives of the project team.

A general question and answer session will follow.
