NHS Lanarkshire is inviting our staff and the public to submit nominations for alternative sites for the new University Hospital Monklands.

During January 2020, NHS Lanarkshire will be embarking on the next phase of the project and would like input from the local community about where the hospital could be located in line with a 5-point criteria.

This follows the findings of the Independent Review, published earlier this year, whereby NHS Lanarkshire has been asked to identify alternative new sites as well as re-evaluating the two top scoring options for the location of the new hospital – Gartcosh and Glenmavis.

Graeme Reid, project director for Monklands Replacement Project, commented:

“We are interested in hearing from the community if they think there are any additional sites which meet the 5-point criteria. We will then fully assess all sites identified along with the existing sites. Please submit your nomination by 13 December 2019.”

Any new sites identified must meet the 5-point criteria as follows:

Be within the University Hospital Monklands unscheduled care catchment area
Be a minimum of 40 developable acres
No detrimental impact on adjoining unscheduled catchment areas of hospitals in Lanarkshire, Glasgow or Forth Valley
Designated by North Lanarkshire Council to permit appropriate development
Sufficient road and transport infrastructure to support the development of a major hospital site

In addition, NHS Lanarkshire has asked North Lanarkshire Council to undertake a site search.

Closing date for return of nominations will be noon on 13 December 2019.

Nominations should be submitted to: MRP.Team@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk
