eHealth and University Hospital Monklands the first to be introduced to the new unified communications platform

Staff within eHealth and University Hospital Monklands will be the first to be introduced to the new unified communications platform, which encompasses a variety of features such as: new desk handsets, upgraded contact centre software and new DECT / Paging facilities.

After full roll out, the new communications platform will cover the majority of NHS Lanarkshire sites, with the exception of the PFI sites at the University Hospitals at Hairmyres and Wishaw.

Graeme Robb, eHealth Project Manager, said: “eHealth will be the first area to move to the new handsets. This will allow us to address any issues and put robust processes in place prior to being rolled out to other sites.”

The handsets will allow for greater flexibility including hot-desking and will allow staff to log on at different locations.

As well as getting new handsets, users will be allocated new numbers and will be provided with instructions on how to log on to the new phones.

The new system has a more unified capability to support soft phone, voice mail, call recording and video conferencing across the organisation.

Services using the Netcall Contact Centre application will be upgraded to a newer platform. The switchboard at University Hospital Monklands will be the first area to go live at the end of October. The switchboard will retain its existing contact number.

Other key service areas, such as Referral Management Services will be transferred soon afterwards.

Throughout September, eHealth and Ascom, will be working to install improved cabling and base stations at University Hospital Monklands. This will work will ensure improved DECT signal coverage throughout the hospital.

The new DECT handsets are projected to be rolled out on 23 October.

There will be an opportunity to view and try out the new handsets in a Model Office area which is being put in place.

Further updates will be provided over the coming weeks.
