FOI duty for staff

extending

Staff across NHS Lanarkshire are being reminded of the organisation’s duty to comply with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA).

In addition to FOISA, requests can also be received and be responded to under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs).

Linda Brownlie, lead freedom of information officer, said: “The EIR regulations cover elements of the environment such as air, water, land, releases into the environment and things that affect human health and safety.

“Examples of requests we receive include asbestos reports, pest infestation statistics, building a new hospital or car park and a Hep A outbreak.

“The regulations are similar to FOISA.  One of the main differences is that there are different reasons for refusing to provide information called exceptions.”

If you receive a request, or would like advice, please contact Linda Brownlie, lead freedom of information officer, on 01698 858110 or email linda.brownlie@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk
