Have you ever wondered what a dietitian has in their fridge?

In an attempt to show that they are as normal eaters as the rest of us, dietitians opened their fridges, as part of national Dietitian Week which fell from 8-12 June, to show the world what’s inside them.
Photos were taken of their fridge’s contents and posted online to show that while it will house the low fat spreads, spinach, broccoli, semi skimmed milk and fruit juice, living there will also be cheese, cake and wine.
Maureen Lees, head of the dietetic service, said: “Of course we enjoy what would be termed unhealthy food from time to time.
“There’s nothing wrong with having these foods on occasions, but the message we wanted to get across from this campaign was, it’s ok to have these foods in moderation but you should try to apply the 80/20 rule by eating well 80 per cent of the time.”
The dietitians also used the week to remind people that there are healthier alternatives to many of their favourite foods such as half fat cheese/yogurt or wholegrain bread or pasta, which are just as tasty.
Maureen continued: “Some people assume they will never enjoy a healthier alternative to a favourite as they think it won’t taste as good.
“But it’s amazing how quickly you can re-educate your palate and you will enjoy these alternatives to the extent that if you go back to the original, you will no longer like the taste of that.”
