HIV Education Evening – Thursday 14 December

HIV Education Evening - Thursday 14 December

Building on the recent World AIDS Day education events, the Lanarkshire BBV Network will hold an HIV education evening on Thursday 14 December at the Ronald Miller Education Centre, University Hospital Wishaw from 6pm to 8pm.

People living with HIV can now anticipate a near-normal life expectancy with modern HIV therapies – but only if the HIV infection has been diagnosed and treated.  HIV is still often diagnosed too late, leading to unnecessary harm (including deaths) as well as unnecessary transmissions to others.

Experts in the field will highlight HIV incidence in Lanarkshire;  the importance of testing and diagnosis; clinical presentation of HIV and AIDS defining conditions; recent developments in HIV treatment and HIV prevention.

The evening will also focus on other sexually transmitted infections in Lanarkshire, including syphilis and the re-emergence of HIV infection among people who inject drugs.

For details of the event, see the attached programme.
