Integration in a nutshell: video short captures essence of partnership working in South Lanarkshire

An online video has been released which captures the spirit of health and social care integration in a nutshell.

Integration is about local teams of professionals working together – alongside partners including unpaid carers, the third sector and independent sector – to deliver quality, sustainable care and services.

And some of those at the heart of the process have summed up what integration means to them in three words.

The release of the bite-size video comes at a vital time as integrated arrangements are required to be in place here, and across Scotland, by 1 April 2016. South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership (H&SCP) has been set up to take this reform – which is required by law – forward.

Throughout the last year, a series of special events have been held across South Lanarkshire’s four localities – Clydesdale, Hamilton, East Kilbride and Rutherglen – to provide an update on progress.

Crucially, the events were also structured to give those at the heart of process, including staff, partners and stakeholders, a chance to have their say. That vital feedback has influenced and shaped plans for the future.

Harry Stevenson, Chief Officer of South Lanarkshire H&SCP, explained: “A prominent feature of these locality events was to listen to those who know the needs in their local areas best. If we involve, engage and listen to people then I believe we’ll get better results from the way we work together.

“Indeed, this video, which was produced at these sessions, features some of our partners, staff and stakeholders and captures an insightful snippet of some of the feedback we have received as we’ve refined our plans for the future.

“That collaborative approach and our commitment to involvement reflects our vision for the integration of health and social care in South Lanarkshire: Working together to improve health and wellbeing in the community – with the community.”
