Mental health website launches after revamp

A website which gives the public access to instant mental health information and advice has been given a revamp.

The Lanarkshire mental health website elament has dedicated sections for adults, young people, carer’s, family and friends as well as professionals.

However, the revamped site has been designed in a way that will make it easier for users to navigate and get the help and support they are looking for quicker.

Susan McMorrin, NHS Lanarkshire senior health promotion officer, said: “NHS Lanarkshire has been engaged in a national programme to increase the use of technology enabled care with a particular focus on promoting self-help and self-management.

“We decided to look at updating and improving the elament website and this is the result.

“The site gives information on local news and self-help resources and also advice on everything from stress, anxiety, eating disorders and dementia as well as information about local services.

“There is also a ‘Get Help Now’ section for people requiring immediate support.”

Most people will experience some kind of mental health issue at some point in their life which will impact on how they think and feel.

How people think and feel affects their health, well-being and quality of life and many factors can influence mental health such as housing, jobs, schools, transport, their environment, as well as the way people live our lives.

The elament site aims to help people cope with these aspects of life during times when they are finding this a challenge.

Almost 46,000 people accessed information on the site over the last year and almost 200,000 have done so over the last four years.

Susan continued: “This shows the site is very well used and that people really do see it as a helpful place for information.

“We hope the revamped site will appeal to even more people.

“The site is for anyone who is looking for information for themselves or who may be concerned about a friend, colleague or family member.”

Users of the new revamped site are also being encouraged to give feedback, comments or improvements they would like to see.
