Patientrack electronic observation system goes live

The Patientrack electronic observation system went live on 7 May in ward 4 and ward 6 at University Hospital Monklands.

Training with nursing staff on the wards and within the Hospital Emergency Care Team (HECT) and others has taken place and we will continue refresher training over the coming weeks.

We started using the electronic system for the first set of observations at 6am and the team was on site to support this in both wards. There was a period of double-running – paper charts and the electronic system running simultaneously until the ward staff feel comfortable and confident in turning off the paper charts.

A daily huddle took place to ensure we were picking up any teething issues, additional training requirements and any infrastructure issues in both wards.

iPads will be available to medics and other disciplines to view National Early Warning Scores (NEWS) information and a ward-wide view of NEWS scores will be displayed on electronic white boards at all times.

Should medics and other disciplines wish training or an overview of the system, please contact Donna McHenry – Donna.McHenry@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk.

If you have any other issues or questions regarding this please contact Donna on DECT – 4062 or mobile – 07917 173439.

Thank you for your support so far in what we hope will be an important step to further improving safety and recognition of deteriorating patients on the site as well as a small step towards our “digital hospital” ambition for the future.
