Pit Stop event to showcase joined-up services and supports
Local people in North Lanarkshire will be the focal point of an event geared to supporting safe and independent living.
Pit Stop, on Monday 26th October in St. Patrick’s Church Hall, Coatbridge, will see a variety of services and supports showcased.
These range from free minor repair to mobility aids, falls prevention advice to information on how new technology can play a transformational role in helping people stay active and independent.
Agencies and organisations represented on the day will include NHS Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire Council and Lanarkshire Carers Centre.
The event comes at a vital time as health and social care integrate, with the partnership support of the voluntary and the independent sector.
And the day’s organiser, Claire Delahay of Glenboig Neighbourhood House, a local voluntary organisation, explained the spirit of the event captures the overall aim of integration in North Lanarkshire – to provide the right support, at the right time, in the right place.
Claire said: “We’ve been working very closely with our partners to ensure that those who attend can tap into a gold mine of information and support.
“We have information on resources like Making Life Easier, a specialist online self-help tool offering advice for those who would like help to live independently at home.
“There will be also be information about assistive technology, which is a range of specialist equipment, including falls sensors and monitors.”
Claire added: “Additionally, there will be expert advice on preventing falls, support for unpaid carers and much more.
“We will have a free prize draw with tea, coffee and snacks too. So, above everything else, it’s a good opportunity for people to come along, meet and chat.”
Janice Hewitt, Chief Accountable Officer for North Lanarkshire Health and Social Care said the Pit Stop event is just one of many examples of joined-up working in North Lanarkshire.
Ms Hewitt added: “Our vision is for people of North Lanarkshire to be able to live safe healthy and independent lives in their communities.
“We also want people to receive the information, advice, support or care they need, at the right time, every time, efficiently and effectively”
