Retirement of Andrea Brown
After 37 years service, deputy charge nurse Andrea Brown retired from NHS Lanarkshire in October.
Andrea, who was a member of the community mental health team at Udston Hospital, Hamilton, started her nursing career as a nursing assistant aged 17 in ward two at Hartwood Hospital.
After having her first son Crawford, Andrea returned to work in ward 19 (rehab). Following the arrival of her sons Andrew and Christopher, Andrea worked nightshift for a period of 16 years before moving to Cleland Hospital.
Andrea thereafter took up a post at Airbles Road Day Hospital where she worked for a few years and, in 2008, moved to her post as deputy charge nurse with the young onset dementia service at Udston where she remained until her retirement.
Andrea lives in Cambusnethan and has three sons Crawford (32), Andrew (29) and Chris (26) and one grandson Jack (4).
In her spare time, Andrea enjoys gardening, knitting and baking. Upon her retirement, Andrea is looking forward to spending more time with her family and relaxing with friends. To mark her retirement, she has booked a holiday to Florida in May 2016.
Karen Reid, senior charge nurse, said: “Andrea has dedicated much of her career to old age psychiatry and will be sadly missed. We all wish her good health and a long and happy retirement”.
