Retirement of Elizabeth Broadfoot

Retirement of Elizabeth Broadfoot

Colleagues gathered to bid farewell to staff nurse Elizabeth Broadfoot who retired in March after 40 years service.

Elizabeth (Liz), who was based within the adult critical care unit (ACCU) at Wishaw General Hospital, began her nursing training in 1975 at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.  After qualifying, Liz undertook nine months training as a midwife at Glasgow’s Rottenrow Maternity Hospital.

In 1981 Liz took up the post of midwife in the special care baby unit at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee before travelling overseas to Newmarket, Germany to continue her love of nursing.

In 1989 Liz joined NHS Lanarkshire where she worked in ‘A’ Block at Law Hospital.  In May 2001 Liz moved to the adult critical care unit (ACCU) at Wishaw General Hospital and remained here until her retirement.

Liz lives in Cambusnethan and has one son Steven (33) and a daughter Gillian (30).  In her spare time she enjoys reading, walking and gardening.

To mark her retirement, Liz has planned a holiday in Australia and New Zealand in November.

Anne Stevenson, senior charge nurse, said: “We will all miss Liz.  We wish her a long and happy retirement”.
