Retirement of Margaret Scoular

Retirement of Margaret Scoular

After 28 years service, charge nurse and child protection link nurse Margaret Scoular retired from NHS Lanarkshire in March.

Margaret, who was based in the emergency department at Wishaw General Hospital, began her career at the age of 16 when she worked at William Smellie Maternity Hospital in Lanark.

In 1976 Margaret started her nursing training, however, left in 1978 to have her children.

In 1985 Margaret began working in a nursing home before resuming her nursing training in 1987.

After qualifying as a nurse in 1990, Margaret joined the emergency department where she also took up the post of child protection link nurse, a post in which she remained until her retirement.

Margaret lives in Carluke with her husband William and has six grandchildren.

In her spare time, Margaret enjoys quizzes, crosswords, walking, reading and clothes shopping.

Colleague Allison McKenna said: “I have had the pleasure of working with Maggie since she was a newly qualified nurse in 1990.  Maggie has worked in emergency care since qualifying, bringing humor and an excellent work ethic.  Maggie is extremely resourceful and has been an asset to myself when purchasing new equipment /stock as she always looks for a reduction/bargain.  Maggie has a good sense of humor and likes a good laugh, which can be much needed on a busy day to help lighten the mood”.
