Retirement of Maureen Millar

Colleagues gathered to say a fond farewell to enrolled nurse Maureen Millar who retired in February after 38 years service.
Maureen, who was based in the orthopaedic clinic at Hairmyres Hospital, began training as a nurse in 1978 in Oban. In 1981, Maureen joined NHS Lanarkshire where she worked in the accident and department (A&E) at Hairmyres Hospital, a post she held for 15 years. Maureen thereafter spent four years at Stonehouse Hospital before returning to Hairmyres in 2001 when the new hospital opened. After returning to A&E for a short period, Maureen then moved to the orthopaedic clinic where she remained until her retirement.
Charge nurse, Lynne Wilson, said: “On behalf of all of the staff in the clinic we wish Maureen all the best in her retirement. All of the staff and patients who attend the clinic are going to miss Maureen dearly – there’s never a dull moment when Maureen is around.
We will miss all the fun and laughter and I can honestly say that Maureen is one of the best nurses I have ever worked with. She gives all her patients and their families 100% all of the time and every one of her patients leaves the clinic feeling that they have been given the best of care and attention”.
