Saints and scroungers

NHS Scotland Counter Fraud Services (CFS) has worked closely with a TV production company over recent months in the production of two episodes of the forthcoming BBC series, ‘Saints and Scroungers’.

The first episode, titled, ‘The Scottish Swindlers and the Stolen Goods’, will be broadcast on Thursday 17 September, BBC1 at 11am and includes the CFS case featuring two former NHS Lothian employees, who stole and sold over £160,000 of dental hand pieces owned by the Salaried Dental Service.  There are interviews with Gordon Young, Head of Service, CFS and Fraser Paterson, National Counter Fraud Manager, CFS.

The second episode, (titled tbc) will be broadcast on Tuesday 22 September, BBC1 at 11am and features the work of the CFS Patient Claims Team to identify and recover monies wrongly claimed for dental and ophthalmic NHS treatment by patients.  It also outlines a CFS dental fraud prevention project aimed at reducing the £3.25m believed to be fraudulently or mistakenly claimed in NHS Scotland each year under the NHS Tax Credit Exemption category.

Both episodes will be available on the BBC iPlayer following broadcast.
