Shining a light on baby loss

BLAW - pink and blue

University Hospital Wishaw was lit pink and blue to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week which ran from 9-15 October.

University Hospital Wishaw joined a host of other buildings and monuments across the country, including the Scottish Government building in Edinburgh and the Kelpies in Falkirk, in remembrance of babies who have been lost during pregnancy or shortly after birth.

On the evening of Tuesday 15 October at 7pm within the sanctuary, the maternity and neonatal services joined in the Wave of Light with a short service of remembrance and lighting of candles in memory of the babies.

Victoria Grove, bereavement specialist midwife for NHS Lanarkshire, said: “Although this was a very sad occasion, it enabled many families to come together to unite and form friendships with people who have experienced the same tragic loss. We do everything we can to support families through the grieving process.

“There was also a small tree of remembrance and book of remembrance available within the hospital sanctuary for families wishing to write a message of remembrance for their baby.”
