Stakeholders to have their say in MRRP

NHS Lanarkshire is involving stakeholders in the plans to either rebuild or refurbish University Hospital Monklands

Two option appraisal events are scheduled to take place on 4 and 8 June to identify the highest scoring option.

Dr Jim Ruddy, clinical lead for the Monklands replacement/refurbishment project (MRRP), said: “We have an exciting opportunity to enhance the hospital facilities for our patients and staff and to take the care we can provide to a whole new level.

“The option appraisal is a key part of the outline business case (OBC) which is currently being prepared following Scottish Government approval to seek a capital allocation for the project.”

The stage one option appraisal event will identify the preferred option: do minimum; full refurbishment of current hospital; new-build on current hospital site or new-build on another site as set out in the Initial Agreement.

If a new-build on another site is identified as the preferred option, a second option appraisal event will take place to compare any alternative potential location with the current site; taking costs and infrastructure into account.

Dr Ruddy added: “Input from all stakeholders will be an important element in the options appraisal process which, alongside the consideration of other criteria, will inform the preferred option. Following the outcome of the option appraisal, NHS Lanarkshire will engage with a wider range of stakeholders.”

The OBC will be submitted to the Scottish Government in 2019 before MRRP moves onto the Full Business Case in 2020.
