Tomorrow’s world workshop: public invited to health and care digital event

Modern technology is becoming an increasingly familiar feature of health and care.

This includes the use of telehealth, which supports people to safely manage a variety of conditions at home with a tablet or mobile phone.

Now South Lanarkshire Health & Social Care Partnership (SLH&SCP) is holding a digital workshop – and is seeking public views and participation.

The event will be held in the Banqueting Hall, South Lanarkshire Council, Almada Street, Hamilton on 23rd August 2017  12:30 – 17:00.

Marianne Hayward, Head of Health and Social Care, SLH&SCP, said: “We are embracing technology in many areas of our partnership today.

“The aim of this workshop is to open a wide conversation with a view to informing the development of a digital health and care strategy for the future.

“We’re particularly keen to explore how digital solutions can improve the experience for people who use our services.

“All are welcome and we’d especially like to hear from members of the public who may be using digital technology as part of their ongoing care or treatment, or those who have used it in the past.

“We want to know what’s working well now as well as how we can refine our approach.”

The workshop’s agenda will also explore areas including:

•Self-management and the role of digital home health monitoring
•Exploring the types of digital self-management, including wearable monitoring devices, virtual consultations and assistive technology
•Exploring digital technology and culture change.

Ms Hayward added: “Part of the discussions will also be focused on the role of digital technology and processes at a local level in South Lanarkshire to further improve communications and links between all partners and service teams.

“Collectively, by listening and sharing experience, we can progress the digital agenda for the continued benefit of people who use our services.”

Val de Souza, Director of Health and Social Care, SLH&SCP, added: “This workshop reflects our continuous commitment to improvement – and crucially, enabling our staff, partners and people who use our services to have a say in that process.”

Telehealth in action

The event follows the recent launch of an animation (available to view by visiting https://vimeo.com/198187123) which shows how Telehealth, which encompasses technology like tablets and mobile phones, is helping people take care of their hearts, minds and general health.

The short internet film tells the story of Fraser, who’s living with high blood pressure. Traditionally, that means he would have had to make regular trips to his GP to have his blood pressure monitored.

But now, thanks to the help of a system called Flo, he can text his readings from home - ensuring his safety and reducing the need to attend the Doctor’s surgery for routine checks.
