Top anaesthetists gathered in Lanarkshire for prestigious national training event

A group of the UK’s top anaesthetists gathered in Lanarkshire to take part in a prestigious national training event.

NHS Lanarkshire’s Ken Corsar Medical Education Training Centre in Bothwell was the venue for the meeting of consultant anaesthetists, who were continuing their professional development at the Difficult Airway Society’s Airway Revalidation Course (ARC).

NHS Lanarkshire consultant anaesthetist Dr Raj Padmanabhan, who co-ordinated the event, said it was an honour for the health board to host the course.

He explained: “Hosting a major national society meeting like this is a first for NHS Lanarkshire so we are delighted that the Difficult Airway Society chose us as the venue for this course.

“Society members travelled from across the UK to learn about the latest expert views on a range of topics.”

The delegates were welcomed by NHS Lanarkshire medical director Dr Iain Wallace.

He said: “It was great to see so many people from all parts of the UK at the ARC event, which is only the second one that has been held.

“The calibre of the speakers was impressive and it was an accolade for NHS Lanarkshire to be hosting. It follows on from some work we have done with the Difficult Airway Society, with Dr Padmanabhan having co-authored one of their sets of guidelines.”

The ARC spreads safety messages and supports UK anaesthetists with their continuing professional development.

The day-long course includes a series of well-researched talks on various airway topics prepared by experts, based on evidence, experience and consensus, to support delegates with the management of airway challenges.
