Wide and varied subject matter in this week's local newspapers

There was mixed and varied coverage of NHS Lanarkshire in this week’s local newspapers with no specific general themes emerging.

Among the topics captured were, a dietetic service pack which helps staff identify patients at risk of malnutrition, improvements in A&E waiting times, the launch of a new innovative text messaging system, an appeal to residents in North Lanarkshire to give their views on the integration of health and social care, and coverage of drug and alcohol services responses to alcohol consumption and the use of psychoactive drugs by young people.

These topics, and others, received very favourable airings in the press with the newspapers recognising the challenges faced by staff in addressing these issues.

A&E waiting times also saw some negative coverage after weekly figures showed NHS Lanarkshire had very narrowly missed its target by 0.2 per cent. The new Houldsworth Centre also, once again, received some negative coverage in the local newspaper following a fault with one of the lifts.

The same newspaper also carried an interview with Graham Johnston, head of management services and Richard Burgon, general manager of the North East Unit, in which they addressed some local questions about the new centre.
