Under changes to workplace pensions introduced by the UK Government, NHS Lanarkshire is required to ensure that all staff are automatically enrolled into a workplace pension scheme.

From March 2013 onwards, new staff have been automatically enrolled into the NHS pension scheme. For staff who were not members of the scheme, NHS Lanarkshire auto enrolled them if they met certain criteria. Staff had the option to opt-out.

Anyone who opted out or stopped making payments are automatically enrolled back into the scheme, usually every three years from implementation (2016, 2019 etc). This is because your circumstances may have changed and it may be the right time for you to start saving. This is an automatic enrolment requirement and applies to all qualifying pension schemes.

The next re-enrolment date is 31 May.

You can opt out by obtaining the relevant form from the SPPA (www.sppa.gov.uk). NHS Lanarkshire is not permitted to issue opt out forms and can only accept official opt out forms which should be completed and returned to Payroll.

Staff can join the scheme before 31 May by contacting Payroll.

Auto re-enrolment – bank staff

With effect from Friday 31 May, bank staff who meet the criteria, will be enrolled into a workplace pension scheme. If you have another post, you may still be enrolled for bank work undertaken.
