World Kidney Day and award winning staff celebrated in local newspapers

World Kidney Day received good coverage in the local newspapers this week with the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser using the day to tell the tale of a Coatbridge woman who received a kidney transplant and was encouraging more people to join the NHS organ donor register.
NHS Lanarkshire also received plaudits from local and national media for being one of only three health boards in Scotland to meet a key government waiting times standard of two-months for cancer treatment.
The pilot of an ambitious plan to shake-up everyday health services in Lanarkshire titled the Primary Care Transformation Programme, also received extensive coverage in many locals including the Motherwell Times, Kilsyth Chronicle and Lanark Gazette.
Patient Barbara Graham also wrote to the East Kilbride News to say well done and how wonderful Hairmyres Hospital and its staff were following a six day stay as an inpatient. She thanked doctors, nurses, paramedics, cleaners, porters and cooks for their caring and lovely attitude to all patients.
Finally, Airdrie woman Leigh-Ann Johnstone featured in the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser after being named maternity support worker of the year by the Royal College of Midwives.
