Name for the new joint health and council centre in Wishaw

The new joint health and council building in the heart of Wishaw has been named the Houldsworth Centre.
The new centre sits on the site of the former library on Kenilworth Avenue and replaces Wishaw Health Centre and Wishaw library.
The name, which is taken from the Houldsworth family who founded Coltness Iron Works, was agreed by the team overseeing the construction which included members of the local community, NHS Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire Council.
Councillor Sam Love, North Lanarkshire Council local area partnership convener, said: “I am delighted the name chosen for the development reflects the history and traditions of Wishaw.
“The Houldsworth Centre is about delivering frontline health and council services to our residents from an accessible town centre location.”
The £23 million community facility, which will open next month, will house a range of health services, including GP practices and dental services, alongside the North Lanarkshire Council library, First-Stop-Shop and housing service.
Colin Sloey, NHS Lanarkshire director of strategic planning and performance, said: “The Houldsworth Centre will be a tremendous addition to the town centre allowing people to access a wide range of health and council services in one convenient location.
“This represents a significant investment by NHS Lanarkshire in local health care and shows our commitment to integrated working for the wellbeing of the community.
“The new building itself is outstanding, designed and built to the very highest standards and is a fitting centrepiece for the ongoing regeneration of Wishaw town centre.”
