A very clear explanation
A poster “Explaining the patient journey through the emergency department (ED)” took the top award at the NHS Lanarkshire Person Centred Care event.
The poster gives patients a better understanding of “what happens through the doors” along-with a realistic expectation of what their visit to the ED will be like.
Rick Edwards, programme manager for person-centred care, said: “The poster was commended for including public partners, which included members of the deaf community and people with learning disabilities, to review and develop information and communication resources.”
Dr Fiona Burton, emergency medicine consultant, said: “The poster was designed to illustrate a patient’s journey from arrival to discharge along the minors, majors or resuscitation flow. It also indicated the points at which a wait could be expected.”
Andrew Craig, medical illustration team leader, said: “The poster utilised the feedback from the Public Reference Forum and we feel it’s a very clear illustration of the benefits of working in co-operation with patients.”
