Free carnival arts workshops

As part of the Cultural Festival 2018 that accompanies North Lanarkshire Council’s sports programme, family groups (kids to parents and grandparents) are being invited to Summerlee Museum, Coatbridge 24-27 July to work with carnival artist Ariel Killick between 10am and 3pm. Ariel has previously developed carnival parade experiences over a series of three events in Ardrossan in 2017. In conjunction with the Scottish Maritime Museum, she worked as lead artist on Irvine’s inaugural Festival of Light in 2016.
Over the four-days, participants will create wearable art and costume drawing on the proud industrial and Gaelic heritage of North Lanarkshire.
Participants can then take part in the upcoming European Games Carnival Parade in Glasgow City Centre on Saturday 4 August. Through the inter-generational workshop week, participants will have an opportunity to learn and use a variety of carnival art techniques and represent North Lanarkshire at this premier international event in Scotland’s cultural calendar this summer.
