HIV education event – Wednesday 28 February 2018

HIV education event - Wednesday 28 February 2018

Building on the recent World AIDS Day education events, the Lanarkshire blood-borne virus (BBV) Network will hold an HIV education event on Wednesday 28 February 2018 at Hamilton Town House from 1.30pm to 5pm.

People living with HIV can now anticipate a near-normal life expectancy with modern HIV therapies – but only if the HIV infection has been diagnosed and treated. HIV is still often diagnosed too late, leading to unnecessary harm (including deaths) as well as unnecessary transmissions to others.

Experts in the field will highlight HIV incidence in Lanarkshire, the importance of testing and diagnosis, clinical presentation of HIV and AIDS defining conditions, recent developments in HIV treatment and HIV prevention.

The event will also focus on other sexually transmitted infections in Lanarkshire, including syphilis and the re-emergence of HIV infection amongst people who inject drugs.

For details of the event, see the attached programme.
