Infection control training for all

A launch of the Scottish Infection Prevention and Control Education Pathway (SIPCEP) took place at Wishaw General.
The pathway is aimed at all levels of staff across health and social care services and starts with a basic foundation level which aims to underpin the knowledge and core behaviours of standard infection control precautions (SICPs).
Head of infection prevention and control (IPC) Emer Shepherd, said: “This is a really good pathway that will not only help trained staff, but undergraduate staff as well, meaning all – from those newly qualified to established staff – will have access to the same quality training.”
The foundation level is aimed at all staff, with an intermediate level which explains how to apply the SICP principles, to an improvement level which links SICPs to quality improvement.
Sabine Nolte, educational projects manager, at NHS Education for Scotland, joined members of the Lanarkshire IPC team at the Wishaw launch.
Emer continued: “The pathway is available on FirstPort and is easy to access and apply to your ward or work area.
“It also doesn’t take long to do and can be completed in the course of your normal working day.”
