Kate retires from Hairmyres
After 36 years’ service, staff nurse Kate Farmer retired from NHS Lanarkshire.
Kate, who was based within ward 14 at Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride, began her nursing career in 1980 when she trained as a nurse at Glasgow’s Western University Hospital.
After qualifying, Kate joined NHS Lanarkshire and worked in various departments including surgical, theatre, intensive care unit (ICU) and rehabilitation. Kate also worked for a spell at Stonehouse Hospital, before returning to Hairmyres where she remained until her retirement.
Kate lives with her husband Simon in East Kilbride along with their very special boy Murphy (a black Labrador).
Kate is very family orientated and enjoys spending time with her sister, brothers, nieces and elderly mum. In her spare time, Kate enjoys eating out, weekends away and walking her beloved Murphy.
Kate’s colleagues will miss her quick wit and individual sense of humour.
Senior charge nurse Margaret Gibney said: “I personally would like to thank Kate for her support as a colleague and friend over the last 11 years. Kate is a big part of our team and she will be sorely missed by her friends and colleagues.
“We have shared many laughs, shed some tears and have fond memories. We hope she will not become a stranger and we will see her again soon. We all wish Kate well for the future.”
