Caring Lesley bids farewell
Colleagues paid a special farewell to clinical nurse manager Lesley Thomson who retired after over 40 years’ service.
Lesley, who was based within the intensive care unit at Hairmyres Hospital, joined the NHS in 1974 when she trained to become a nurse at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
After qualifying in 1977, Lesley joined NHS Lanarkshire as a staff nurse with the surgical department at Hairmyres Hospital before moving to the intensive care unit in 1979 where she remained until her retirement.
Lesley has two children, Fiona and Gordon, and two grandchildren, Abbie and Rachel. In her spare time, Lesley enjoys spending time with her daughter Fiona and husband Chris, who also live locally, travelling and jetting off exploring new countries. Her retirement will give Lesley more time to attend live music concerts and socialise with friends.
Charge nurse Susan Whyte said: “Lesley has been an amazing leader in ITU and has been an amazing support to staff, patients and relatives. Lesley has taken care of hundreds of critically sick patients over the years and is an outstanding, caring nurse with a wealth of skill and knowledge and will be sorely missed by staff and patients alike.”
