Success as The Haven holds first ladies lunch in six years

Over 220 ladies from across Lanarkshire came out in support of the The Haven charity, which helps individuals, families and carers face the emotional impact of a life limiting illness and has a centre at University Hospital Wishaw.

The event held in the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Strathclyde on Sunday 25th March, hosted by Suzie McGuire, had something for everyone.

With the amazing Rock Choir starting the day off on a high note, the wonderful vocals of The Ultimate Jersey Boys had the dance floor full.

Lynsay Cooper, Haven communications officer, said: “We are delighted to announce that the Ladies Lunch raised an incredible £11,300. We are blown away by the kindness of those who attended and thank them for giving so generously. Again, local business did us proud, and as a result we had a fabulous array of raffle and auction prizes.

“A special thank you goes to Willmas Venue Styling for making the room look so special, and to photographer Andy Clinton for taking time out to help us capture this amazing day. This day was not only entertaining but a huge fundraising success. We have already booked a date for a Ladies lunch 2019, so watch this space!”

Haven volunteer Bonnie Chapman, who attended the event with friends, added: “From the moment we arrived, everyone who organised this event, and the volunteers at tables were exceptional. There was a good selection of items at the stalls and the prices were excellent, all items were of a high quality. As were the raffle and auction prizes on the day.

“As we went to our table we could hear the voices of the Rock Choir. The host Suzie McGuire was funny and very good. After our lunch we were entertained by the Jersey Boys, and oh what an afternoon with singing and dancing. All in all most entertaining, great afternoon had by all.”

The demand for The Haven support services only continues to grow and events like this help the charity to raise much-needed funds, ensuring they are able to offer help to all those who need it, when they need it.

A client of The Haven said: “I think The Haven is an outstanding place to go when no one else really understands about the challenges of my illness. I feel so at ease and relaxed as soon as I walk in and am made very welcome.”

The Haven’s multidisciplinary team of nurses, therapists and volunteers deliver the charity’s award-winning model of care providing emotional and practical support to individuals, families and carers, enabling them to live fulfilled lives with hope no matter the diagnosis or prognosis.
