River City actors Scott Fletcher, Jordan Young and Stephen Purdon are taking on the Mighty Stride this Sunday (29 April) along with more than 80 others, who are all walking the Kiltwalk for Team Haven.

The Haven, a registered charity which provides support to people affected by a range of life-limiting illness, has a centre at University Hospital Wishaw. To sustain these free support services fundraising events like the Kiltwalk are key to helping The Haven offer a programme designed to help individuals cope with the physical, emotional and practical aspects of their illness.

Commenting on the event, Scott Cunningham, fundraising officer at The Haven, said: “It is fantastic to have the River City lads joining our team of walkers.

“Over the last couple of years, The Kiltwalk has become a very popular, core event for us as people of all ages and abilities are able to take part.

The Kiltwalk, which is now one of Scotland’s highest profile charity events, sets itself apart from other fundraising events as The Hunter Foundation pledges to top up the totals raised by each entrant by an incredible 40 per cent.

Scott Fletcher said: “I am thrilled to have be part of Team Haven for this year’s Kiltwalk in Glasgow. It is an incredible charity and all the more special to me as they are based in my hometown of Blantyre.

“I recently visited the centre and it was fantastic to learn all about the services they deliver to people affected by a range of life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease.

“Jordan, Stephen and I were all eager to come on board and lend our support for The Haven and we are very much looking forward to grabbing some tartan and taking on the challenge of walking 26 miles.”
